John Duigan was the first Australian to successfully fly an Australian-designed and constructed power aircraft. On 7 october 1910, his self-designed biplane flew 180m at 64kph at altitude 3.4m at his family property at Mia Mia Victoria.

Centenary of Powered Flights (09.03.10) - Wright Model A

The first sustained, controlled flight in a powered aircraft in Australia was made by Englishman Colin Defries on 09.12.1909. This plane was a modified Wright Model A named The Stella.
