Chugging and puffing down the track of maximaphily

At the initial stage, like the early steam locomotive, I am chugging and puffing, slowly and merrily, down the track of maximaphily.....

A long, long way to go.....

Looking for "concordance "..............

New stamp issues with subjects of specific names e.g, hibiscus flower, Queen Elizabeth II, the Twin Tower, etc, might not be that difficult for us to find postcards of concordance as being well-known subjects, there are lots of postcards on them. Conversely, topics on models in particular normally cast greater difficulties as the already hard to find postcards have to be further filtered or eliminated, confined to only certain models. In such instances that I find no perfect choices, I would take a step back and settle for a lesser degree of concordance. In this case - the steam locomotive.

" The picture must offer the best possible concordance with the subject of the postage stamp or with one of them, if there are several." FIP

A long long journey to "Pearl of the Orient"

Malaysia maxicard - Malayan railways ( 22.06.2010)

During my four years of study in Penang Island( North of Malaysia), I used to travel to and fro home by train whenever there was a semester break. From my hometown in Johor( South of Malaysia), I would take the morning train to arrive in the evening at Kuala Lumpur( Central of Malaysia), where I continued my journey "in the dark" by taking a northbound train scheduled to reach Butterworth( in Penang State) at dawn. And proceeding from the railway station, at the nearby ferry terminal, I joined the crowd of early-risers to catch, not a glimpse of the twilight, but the earliest ferry heading to Penang Island, the beautiful "Pearl of the Orient", my destination.

A journey over "land and sea"; a journey through "sunrise, sunset, dawn and dusk".....
May look beautiful in imaginary, this long train journey from south to north of Malaysia; well, in reality, what do you think?

* Penang is known as Pulau Pinang now.

Love for steam locomotive

Today, the love for steam locomotive is still overwhelming despite the fact that it had been pushed into the bygone era by the "natural process" of evolution of train. Steam locomotive would never be forgotten as it has left behind a legacy that its image amongst all other trains' is always chosen and remembered for the word "Train".

The chugging of the train

As kids, we loved to hear the whistle and the chugging of the train. Even as at today, that sound stays fresh in my memory. How about you? And may I know how is it like in your memory?

"Duuu.....uu, kingkong kingkong........" was my childhood version (familiar to you?).

But my children who had travelled in the express train before gave me an entirely different version: "Onnnn....g..  qiqi, onnnn....g..  qiqi....".

Keretapi Tanah Melayu ( Malayan Railways), 22.06.2010

KTM ( Keretapi Tanah Melayu) is celebrating its 125 years' of glorious service in June 2010. From the early steam engine locomotive, evolving to the electric-powered train today, it remains to be probably the slowest, but the safest and most affordable mean of public transport in Malaysia.

We can't stop laughing....

Kookaburra is known as "laughing bird" for its call sound like raucous laughter. It seems their "laughter" can be heard at anytime of the day, but more frequently after dawn and after sunset. I am yet to have this wonderful experience of hearing this "cheerful laughter" of the Autralian bush.

"Kookabura sits in an old gum tree...."

"Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
Merry merry king of the bush is he.
Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra,
Gay your life must be!
..........................."

I am sure all of us are familiar with this popular Australian nursery rhyme on this cheerful laughing bird, right?

Australia maxicards - Shanghai World Expo 2010 ( 18.05.2010)

The Shanghai World Expo 2010 takes place from 1 May to 31 October 2010, with over 190 participating countries. "Peng Peng" (鹏鹏) is the name of the welcoming Australian kookaburra mascot featured on the stamp.
"Peng" is indeed a very well-chosen name - the character "Peng"(鹏) evokes a sentiment of ambition and glory in Chinese (鹏程万里) and “Peng”(朋) also means "friendship" in Mandarin.
